WASHI MOLD [Cover]

WASHI MOLD is produced using a technique in which washi is compression-molded in a 3D-printed forming mold.

A thick WASHI MOLD cover is fitted over a glass sake bottle, functioning as protective packaging while also transforming into a flower vase after the sake has been consumed. Its distinctive surface features the fibrous, uneven texture unique to washi.

Rather than being discarded once its original purpose is fulfilled, the packaging continues to serve as a functional object, offering a more sustainable approach to product packaging.

The compression-molding process developed for WASHI MOLD can also be applied beyond bottle covers to a wide range of products, including vessels and toys for young children.

By combining washi and pulp with materials such as charcoal, clay, persimmon tannin, and hardening agents, WASHI MOLD explores new possibilities for washi through unique textures and material expressions.
